This past weekend, 518 Guitar hosted a special event that brought together students, friends, and family for a memorable afternoon of music, community, and fun. Held in the private room of Lynn's Uptown Pub in Albany, the event provided an incredible opportunity for students to showcase their talents, regardless of age or experience level.
As their teacher, I was humbled and excited to see students of all ages and abilities step onto the stage. From a six-year-old who had only taken two lessons to seasoned performers with years of practice under their belts, everyone had the chance to shine. The performances ranged from favorite songs to classical pieces and instructional etudes, showcasing the hard work and dedication these students have poured into their music.
The turnout was nothing short of amazing, with more attendees than I ever expected. Friends and family filled the room, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere for each performer. It was heartwarming to see such an engaged and encouraging crowd, celebrating every student’s effort and bravery, no matter their skill level.
Events like these remind us of the joy music brings, not only to those who play but also to those who listen. Learning songs to share with friends and family — or even just for yourself — is an essential part of the musical journey. It’s not about perfection but about connection and the courage to express yourself through music. Jamming with others is proven to increase your ability and confidence much more quickly than playing alone.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the group jam session at the end. John DiBlasi and I led the way, playing easy pop songs while students picked up their guitars and joined in. The room came alive with a mix of laughter, strumming, and singing as everyone played together, creating a true sense of camaraderie and community.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who made time in their busy schedules to attend this event and support our students. Seeing the smiles and hearing the music reinforced just how special the 518 Guitar community is. Thank you to everyone who performed, listened, or simply showed up to cheer on our musicians. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of you!
